About

My name is Sam Mallouf (she/her). I am a certified grant writer working in beautiful Downtown Longmont, Colorado. After a couple of decades working administrative and operational jobs in the non-profit and education sectors, I recently pivoted to help these organizations in a different way.
If you're an organization feeling stuck on where to start with funding, Tackle Box is here to help you move forward. I don’t just write grants—I partner with you to craft strong, persuasive proposals and identify the right funders. I’ll also make sure your website and materials reflect the heart of your mission and values. I love working with passionate locals who are committed to uplifting our community. Let’s connect and get your organization the support it deserves.

How it works
I tailor my services to meet each organization where they are—whether you're just getting started or looking to grow. I’m especially passionate about supporting mission-aligned groups here in Longmont, and I specialize in working with arts, LGBTQ+, and environmental organizations.

If one hasn’t already been done, the first step is always to chart your course with a solid funding strategy. This becomes your north star—guiding every decision and helping you navigate the waters of fundraising with clarity. It shows you where to anchor your efforts, when to set sail on new opportunities, and how to steer clear of wasted time and dead ends. A new funding strategy can—and should—be created for every major project or initiative to ensure your efforts are aligned, efficient, and goal-driven. With your map in hand, we can then plot the most effective route forward—identifying the right funders, crafting compelling proposals, and keeping your mission on course.

Funding Strategy
A solid funding strategy is more than a to-do list—it's your north star. Instead of scrambling for grants or donations last-minute, a well-thought-out plan helps you target the right funders, align your messaging, and build long-term relationships. It also saves staff time, reduces burnout, and increases your chances of success. Just starting out or looking to grow, a strategic approach to funding makes all the difference.

Website & Branding Alignment
More often than not, your website is the first stop for potential funders. It should clearly reflect your mission, impact, and key details—like financials, board members, and strategic plans. I can help ensure your site aligns with grant requirements and tells your story in a way that resonates with funders. Let’s make sure they see the full picture of your impact. Here's one example of my work.

Grant Writing & Editing
Great ideas deserve great funding—but even the most impactful work can get overlooked without a clear, compelling proposal. Professional grant writing and editing ensure your mission stands out, your story resonates, and your application meets funder expectations. Whether you're crafting something new or tightening up an existing draft, clear and compelling writing gets you noticed—and funded.

Why use a grant writer?
Grants are competitive—and funders read hundreds of applications. A professional grant writer brings strategy, clarity, and experience to the table, helping your proposal rise to the top. In many nonprofits, grant writing falls on someone already juggling a full-time role, which can lead to rushed proposals or missed opportunities. Hiring a grant writer means you get focused, high-quality work without burning out your team. We know how to speak funder language, avoid common pitfalls, and highlight what makes your work stand out—so you can stay focused on your mission while increasing your chances of getting funded.
Hourly or Commission based payment?
Grant writing isn’t just paperwork—it’s strategy, storytelling, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes thinking. Paying on commission is actually considered unethical in the field. Hourly rates can get tricky too, since so much of the work happens off the page—researching, planning, and fine-tuning your message. That’s why I offer flat-rate pricing based on the scope of the project. It keeps things clear, fair, and focused on doing great work together from the start.

How Long Does a Funding Strategy Take?
On average, building a solid funding strategy takes about two months. That’s because we’re not just pulling a quick list—we’re starting with 200–300 potential grants and thoughtfully narrowing it down to the best-matched opportunities for your organization. This process includes research, timeline planning, and making sure your messaging aligns with what funders are really looking for. Taking the time upfront means less scrambling later—and a much higher chance of success when it’s time to apply. A strong strategy is the foundation for long-term funding wins.
